The reverse flow of knowledge and ideas from Japan to China was important to China's modernization in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic period. Many of the young Chinese intellectuals who came to Japan to acquire new ideas ended up playing critical roles in the development of Chinese nationalism, including Chinese conversion to socialism.
